(WEST FRANKFORT, IL) — The West Frankfort City Council Tuesday night approved a resolution urging Governor Rauner and the General Assembly to protect full funding of local government distributive fund revenues. This fund redistributes part of the income tax the state collects back to local municipalities. The money is used to fund the essential quality of life services expected and relied upon by the community. Rauner proposed a 50 percent reduction in the local share of the income tax during his recent budget address, which will reduce local revenues by over $600 million. The resolution says the loss of this state-shared income tax revenue would result in the elimination of countless jobs, local tax increases, program and service cuts, and could increase debt burdens that would be felt by all citizens. City leaders say if the reduction happens, the city will lose $405,000.
