Lawyers Set To Argue Pension Overhaul In State Supreme Court

(Springfield, IL) — Lawyers will be in the state Supreme Court today to argue whether or not the proposed 2013 pension overhaul is unconstitutional. Lawmakers suggested reducing state employees’ benefits because Illinois is dealing with a pension shortfall worth roughly 111-billion-dollars. Critics of the overhaul believe any current or former state worker who is a member of Illinois’s pension system, shouldn’t have their benefits diminished or impaired.
