Unions Sue Rauner Over ‘Fair Share’ Fees

(Springfield, IL) — Governor Bruce Rauner’s office says he knew he’d get a fight by deciding to end collection of so-called “fair share” union fees and that’s now the case. Twenty-seven unions representing more than 40-thousand state employees have filed suit against Rauner’s executive order, saying Rauner is exceeding his statutory authority and is violating collective bargaining agreements. Fair share fees are collected from non-union workers to compensate the union for securing contracts that benefit those non-union workers.
