(East St. Louis, IL) — In an unusual move, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin is endorsing a challenger against a Democrat incumbent in the race for mayor of East St. Louis. Durbin is backing Emeka Jackson-Hicks in her campaign to unseat Alvin Parks Jr. and defeat another challenger, Courtney Hoffman. In a news conference, Durbin said East St. Louis needs new leadership and said Jackson-Hicks offers a chance for a “new start.” Durbin is a native of East St. Louis and has clashed with Parks in the past.
