(Chester, IL) — A former cop convicted of murdering his wife is denying he tried to hire a hitman to kill the prosecutor who put him away. Drew Peterson was in a Randolph County courtroom Tuesday to plead not guilty to the charge. His attorneys waived a preliminary hearing, in effect conceding there’s enough evidence to let the case go to trial. Peterson’s attorneys told the judge that Peterson wants a trial as soon as possible on charges he plotted to have the Will County State’s Attorney killed. Peterson waived his right to a pretrial hearing and entered a not guilty plea to the charge that he sought to have James Glasgow, the prosecutor in Peterson’s murder trial, killed. Peterson, a former Bolingbrook police sergeant, is serving time at the Menard Correctional Center for the murder of his third wife Kathleen Savio and is the sole suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson.
