Cairo man, 43, facing murder charges in woman’s death

CAIRO, Ill. (AP) — A Cairo man has been charged with murder in the death of a 25-year-old woman. Officers found Gloria Faye Wiggins of Cairo dead in her apartment while conducting a well-being check late Thursday night. The Illinois State Police says 43-year-old Christopher Simpkins has been arrested and charged with three counts of murder. He’s accused of causing Wiggin’s death by hitting her with his fists and knees. Authorities still haven’t determined a motive into the killing. Results of an autopsy conducted Saturday are pending until the investigation is complete. Simpkins is being held at the Tri-County Detention Center in Ullin on a $500,000 bond. Online court records don’t list an attorney for him.
