Amtrack Funding Cuts Could Affect Passengers

(Springfield, IL) — Governor Rauner’s proposed state spending plan will cut 40 percent of Illinois funding for Amtrack trains at a time when ridership has been peaking. The rail company relies on sales and government support to keep operating, but tickets only cover just under half of all expenses. A cut in funding could lower the number of rides that passenger have to choose from. The Illinois Department of Transportation recently released a statement saying they’ll work closely with the state to find a solution to the legislature’s serious financial problems.
