(MT. VERNON, IL) — Weather conditions were blamed for a multi-vehicle accident in Jefferson County Saturday evening. Illinois State Police have not identified any of those involved, but say the three vehicles involved were traveling north on Interstate 57 at the 95-mile marker when one of the vehicles lost control of his unit on the snowy pavement and collided with a second vehicle, causing the first vehicle to be hit by a third vehicle. One of the drivers suffered major injuries along with a six-year-old passenger from the St. Louis, MO area. Police said charges were pending.
