(BENTON, IL) — A West Frankfort man accused of holding his family hostage last October was set to stand trial this week on charges stemming from the incident, but the trial has been canceled. The reason – both sides in the case against 37-year-old Doyle E. Marion, Jr. need more time to prepare plus new information into Doyle’s mental state at the time of the incident needs more investigation. Police say Marion held three family members against their will inside the family’s home on South Taft Street. Marion is charged with forcible armed detention and aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery of a victim 60 years or older and aggravated unlawful restraint, unlawful restraint and aggravated cruelty to animals and domestic battery. A final pretrial is set for May 28 at 9:30 a.m. with a jury trial tentatively set for June 2.
