Statewide Tornado Drill Set For March 3rd

(LINCOLN, IL) — As part of Illinois Severe Weather Preparedness Week (March 1 – 7, 2015) the National Weather Service (NWS) will be conducting the annual Statewide Tornado Drill on Tuesday March 3rd at 10:00 am CST. This will coincide with the “first Tuesday of the month” siren test that many of you conduct in your areas. This test will consist of an actual, live Tornado Warning for every county in the state of Illinois. The warning will contain “test” wording throughout the message to indicate that this is not an actual emergency, but a test for the annual Statewide Tornado Drill. This test Tornado Warning will be transmitted through weather radios and to all local broadcasters. The test will not be transmitted to cell phones through the Wireless Emergency Alert system like actual Tornado Warnings are. If we are encountering hazardous weather on Tuesday March 3rd, the test will be postponed until Wednesday March 4th at 10:00 am CST.
