Report: State Health Official Failed To Monitor Grant Spending

(Springfield, IL) — A new report says that former state Public Health official Doris Turner did a poor job of monitoring and distributing state grants. The investigation showed that Springfield nonprofit Tower of Refuge was awarded more than 200 thousand dollars in grants, even though fraudulent information was turned in to get the money. The report also accused Turner, who is now a Springfield alderman, of not following up after finding out the organization needed to reimburse the state seven thousand dollars. Turner told the “Springfield Journal Register” that the report was “not exactly accurate.”
