(SIKESTON, MO) — Missouri authorities have charged a 60-year-old Altamont karate instructor with statutory rape and child molestation, alleging that he planned to start a new life with his 13-year-old female student. According to Sikeston, Missouri police Detective Bobby Sullivan in a probable cause affidavit, Steven C. Larson wrote a letter to the girl’s parents and admitted to knowing the girl’s age and psychological problems she was having since being the victim of a sexual assault. But the affidavit notes, Larson still took the girl from Illinois to Missouri with intentions of starting a new life with her. New Madrid County authorities have charged Larson with child kidnapping, statutory rape in the first degree, and child molestation in the first degree. The affidavit indicates that Illinois State Police told Sikeston police that Larson and the girl were in Room 227 of the Days Inn in Sikeston early on the morning of Feb.1. After verifying that Larson had rented the room, Sikeston police entered the room and arrested Larson on a kidnapping warrant out of Effingham County. Police added that the girl initially denied any sexual abuse on Larson’s part. But a few days later, police said, the girl admitted that she and Larson had had sexual intercourse in the motel room. Larson also admitted to ISP investigators that he had sex with the girl, according to the affidavit.
