(MT. VERNON,IL) — The circuit clerk in Jefferson County has announced he will be resigning later this month. Circuit Clerk John Scott sent a letter Friday to county board chairman Bob White, saying the two-term Scott will step down effective February 27. He’s been circuit clerk since 2006. White says Scott is taking a job with the Illinois Comptroller’s Office. Jefferson County leaders will look to replace Scott at their meeting on February 23.
