(SALEM, IL) — Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in an early morning incident on Interstate 57 that resulted in a high-speed chase ending in a crash that has closed a southbound lane of the Interstate in Marion County. The incident started around 5:10 this morning, when an older model Buick LeSabre reportedly fled from an Illinois state trooper near the 72 mile marker. A short time later a Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy noticed the vehicle driving from the 92 mile marker through the 103 mile marker. A Marion County Sheriff’s deputy then picked up the chase at the 106 mile marker, with speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour. Just before 5:45 this morning, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department reported the vehicle crashed at the 117 mile marker, on northbound Interstate 57. Marion County authorities reported that one lane of southbound I-57 was closed for a time this morning due to the crash.
