(EFFINGHAM, IL) — A 60-year-old Altamont man is scheduled to appear in court this morning on kidnapping charges. Steven Larson is charged in Effingham County court with two counts of kidnapping for the alleged abduction of 13-year-old Rebecca Neu on January 30. Larson and Neu were located early Sunday morning in Sikeston, Missouri, where Larson was taken into custody without incident. Larson was returned to Effingham County Thursday after being held in Scott County, Missouri. Larson had earlier waived extradition. Larson is scheduled for a 10am hearing Friday before Judge Kimberly Koester. At the time a warrant was issued for Larson’s arrest, Judge Koester set his bond at $250,000. An Amber Alert was issued for Larson and Neu after Larson’s car was found parked at the Amtrak station in Effingham. Neu’s parents had dropped their daughter off earlier Saturday with Larson, who was her karate instructor.
