(MT. VERNON, IL) — A 29-year-old man is in the Jefferson County Jail, after police officers reportedly found inside a vacant residence on North 44th Street. Officers responded to the address on a report of an unsecured door. Upon entering the residence they reportedly found Jonathan Graham inside, and learned he was there without permission. They took Graham into custody for criminal trespassing. Police reports say Graham was found in possession of items officers believed had been stolen from a motel, ultimately finding the former Cozy Inn Motel at 333 South 44th Street had been burglarized. A crime scene technician responded to the motel and reportedly located physical evidence further linking Graham to the motel burglary. After being taken to the police department for an interview, Graham reportedly gave incriminating statements and was additionally charged with burglary. He remains in custody of the Jefferson County Jail, where he awaits the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
