(SALEM, IL) — After two days of testimony, a Marion County jury Tuesday adjourned for just under an hour before awarding a mother and daughter from Michigan more than $140,000 in damages for injuries they suffered in a November 2010 accident on Interstate 57 near Salem. Amelia and Courtney Scott were traveling on I-57 just north of Salem near the Tonti overpass, when the car they were in was struck from behind by a semi-truck driven by Warren Michael Hines for EQ Industrial Services, also from Michigan. The Scott’s were seeking just under $1 million in damages, but were awarded $141,344 — $12,500 each for past and future pain and suffering, along with $46,344 in past medical expenses and $45,000 for future medical expenses. The plaintiffs claimed that Hines looked away from the road, thus causing the crash.
