BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Prosecutors in southern Illinois say a 16-year-old boy is facing felony charges in a fatal hit-and-run last summer. The Belleville News Democrat reported Monday that the boy is charged with reckless homicide and failure to report an accident involving injury or death in the June 6 accident. That’s when a jogger discovered the body of 35-year-old Jack Hoppe on a bike trail in Granite City. The medical examiner’s office determined he died of blunt trauma to the chest and abdomen from a motor vehicle. Granite City police have said Hoppe might have been asleep on the trail when he was struck. The teen’s name has not been released. The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a news release the case will remain in juvenile court.
