Effingham, IL – Illinois State Police District 12 Commander, Captain Kelly Hodge, Thursday announced activity and enforcement figures for 2014. Troopers in District 12, which includes Clark, Clay, Crawford, Cumberland, Effingham, Fayette, Jasper, Lawrence, Marion, and Richland Counties, answered 4,031 calls for service and initiated 19,535 incidents in the field during the year. In addition, enforcement figures totaled 10,363 citations and 10,693 written warnings, including 4,889 speeding citations, 198 DUIs, 1,785 seatbelt citations, 113 child restraint citations, 3,214 written warnings for speeding, and 386 criminal arrests. Troopers also assisted 3,434 motorists, conducted 3,849 Motor Carrier Inspections, and investigated 960 traffic crashes. Of those crashes investigated by District 12, 17 were fatal traffic crashes resulting in 17 fatalities. During the year, 7,290 citations and 4,373 written warnings were issued for “Fatal Four” violations. These violations are most associated with fatal traffic crashes and include Speeding, DUI, Failure to Wear a Seatbelt, and Distracted Driving.
