EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A murder trial has begun for a 24-year-old Alton man accused of fatally shooting his cousin in the head. Prosecutors say Damond Riddlespriger killed his cousin, Marlon Poindexter, in July 2011 because he was angry about a woman they both dated. Riddlespriger is charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery. The (Alton) Telegraph reports two men, who were with the cousins when the shooting occurred, testified Tuesday. Bryon Blake said he saw Riddlespriger put a gun to Poindexter’s head and heard a “pop.” He also said he saw Riddlespriger reach into his cousin’s pocket afterward. Adam Williams testified that he saw Riddlespriger’s hand make a sudden movement and heard a “pop.” Riddlespriger’s attorney has suggested one of the witnesses killed Poindexter because he was rumored to have lots of money and marijuana.
