DNR Launches Equine Program To Help People With PTSD

(Marion, IL) — People who are suffering with mental illness or PTSD are being matched with horses down in Marion to help them cope. State officials say horses have healing powers that have proven to be therapeutic. Chris McCloud with the Department of Natural Resources says the Marion Veterans Affairs Medical Center is helping launch the two-year-pilot program and will refer patients in need. More than 25 horses, ponies, and mules will be available through the program. Details are available at SESTherapeuticRiding.com.
