Democrats, Republicans Spar Over Special Election Bill

(Springfield, IL) — Republicans and Democrats aren’t necessarily starting the year on a good note. Democrats pushed a bill through special session yesterday, which will allow voters to choose the next state comptroller in an election next year. Republicans say that’s a slap in the face to incoming governor Bruce Rauner, who wants his appointee to serve out the comptroller’s post for a full four-years. Republican lawmakers in the House and Senate say Democrats are flexing their muscle and trying to strip Rauner of his power, before he even takes office.
