State Agencies Bolster Case For Calling Nukes “Green”

(Springfield, IL) — Three government agencies are providing evidence to support Exelon’s claim that its nuclear plants should be treated as “green energy” producers, giving the company a financial advantage over its competitors who use coal and natural gas. At the direction of the Illinois House, the agencies have produced reports touting the environmental and economic benefits of Exelon’s six nuclear plants. The company is under financial pressure because of the current low prices for natural gas and coal and has been seeking ways to gain a regulatory advantage based on the fact that the nukes don’t produce greenhouse gases.
