(Edwardsville, IL) — Drug overdose deaths are up sharply in Madison County. Last year they went up nearly fifty-percent to 75. Coroner Stephen Nonn’s report says there are also 26 other deaths in which a drug overdose is the suspected cause, so if those are confirmed, the total would be one-hundred-one for the year. Of the confirmed overdose deaths, 22 were from heroin and 41 were from prescription drugs. Seven died from other illegal drugs and one died from inhaling aerosol from an air duster can.
