(SOUTHERN ILLINOIS) — As 2014 has drawn to a close, we take a look at cases filed during the year in area county courts. Clinton County saw 191 criminal felonies filed for the year, compared to 168 the year before, and 254 ten years ago. Jefferson County topped out the year with 408 felonies, that’s down from 560 in 2013, and 699 ten years ago. Marion County has seen 333 felonies in 2014, down from 408 the previous year and 521 in 2004. Washington County had 72 felonies filed in 2014, compared to 86 the previous year and 98 ten years ago. Clinton County had 304 criminal misdemeanors filed last year, an increase compared to 265 the previous year, but a significant decrease from the 647 filed in 2004. Jefferson County filed 534 misdemeanor cases in 2014, a notable decrease from the 639 filed in 2013 and down significantly from the 723 filed in 2004. Only 274 misdemeanors were filed last year in Marion County, down from 311 in 2013 and a significant decrease from the 540 filed in 2004. Washington County court filed 126 misdemeanors last year, compared to 148 filed the previous year, a significant decrease from the 259 filed 10 years ago. In our area, Marion County filed the most driving under the influence cases this year, with 177. Jefferson County follows with 138 and Fayette County with 107. Clinton County only filed 90 DUI cases last year and Washington County only 36.
