(New Baden, IL) — Officials say the southern Illinois grandfather and grandson who were killed in a boating accident were not wearing life jackets. Terry Calvert was out fishing with his grandkids on Monday when his 13-year-old grandson fell in the water. Calvert went in after him but was overtaken by the cold. Other fishermen rescued Calvert, who later died of hypothermia and suffocation. His grandson’s body was pulled from the water a few hours later. Both are being laid to rest in the next few days.
