Law Takes Aim At Underage Drinking

(Springfield, IL) — Parents may want to keep a closer watch over what their kids and their kids’ friends are doing when they’re inside their property. Starting January 1st, parents can be fined up to two-thousand-dollars for letting anyone under 21 drink in the vehicles, trailers, and boats that they own or control. And, if there’s a death involved, parents could be hit with felony charges. State Senator Julie Morrison pushed for the law after two 18-year-olds were killed after leaving a house party in Deerfield, back in 2006. The teen driver’s blood alcohol content was point-132, well above the legal driving limit.
