BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Outgoing U.S. Rep. Bill Enyart isn’t sure what he will do next, but says becoming a lobbyist is at the bottom of the list. The one-term Democrat was defeated in last month’s election by Republican state Rep. Mike Bost for the 12th Congressional District seat in southwest Illinois. The region has long been held by Democrats. Enyart spoke to The (Belleville) News-Democrat this week. He says he’s troubled by campaign finance laws and the amount of money it takes to run a competitive campaign. Enyart says his future plans including writing about American policies. The former major general in the Illinois National Guard has previously said Democrats need a clear-cut strategic vision on defense issues. He says his background can allow him to do that.
