(BENTON, IL) — A Franklin County man was recently sentenced for abusing his infant son. Twenty-four-year-old Justin Harvey of West City pleaded guilty in Franklin County Court and his plea was negotiated which includes a sentence of six years in prison. He will get credit for time served since his arrest on Sept. 23. He will also have three years of mandatory supervised release and have to pay court costs. The state also dropped a second count of aggravated battery on a child in exchange for the negotiated plea. Reports say Harvey applied pressure to the infant’s torso and tore a small fold of mucous membrane extending from the floor of the mouth to the midline of the underside of the tongue with his hand. The infant was also checked out by a doctor at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and found that the infant had five fractured ribs that were healing.
