Auditor’s Report Details Missing Children Problems With DCFS

(Springfield, IL) — A report from the auditor general is sounding the alarm on the failure of the Department of Children and Family Services to report missing children in state custody. The report, which goes back to 2011, estimates nearly three-thousand wards of the state disappeared multiple times in a two-year period. The audit also found that caseworkers sometimes didn’t inform DCFS about the missing kids. The audit was ordered by the Illinois House in May 2013.
