University of Illinois at Chicago to name next chancellor

CHICAGO (AP) — The University of Illinois at Chicago is set to name its new chancellor. In a news release, the school says it will announce Thursday the chancellor to succeed Paula Allen-Meares pending the formal approval of the Board of Trustees at its Jan. 15 meeting. Allen-Meares’ 6-year-term ends that same day and the release says she will return to the faculty. The release does not identify the new chancellor. The chancellor will take over several months after the UIC faculty members voted in favor of a “no confidence” resolution against Allen-Meares over what they said were changes Allen-Meares made in campus administration without their input. The new chancellor will be introduced by retiring University of Illinois President Robert Easter. Easter is leaving next year and will be succeeded by Timothy Killeen.
