BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A new trial is underway in southwestern Illinois for a murder suspect who was ordered retried after the previous presiding judge was implicated in a courthouse cocaine scandal. The Belleville News-Democrat reports that a St. Clair County jury was chosen Tuesday to hear the case involving 30-year-old William Cosby. He had been found guilty in April of last year in the 2012 shooting death of Antwan Thomas outside an East St. Louis lounge. But a judge last year ordered Cosby retried. He concluded that Cosby’s attorneys should have been told that both the presiding judge, Michael Cook, and the case’s key investigator were under separate drug investigations. Cook later pleaded guilty to federal heroin possession and weapons charges and is serving a two-year prison term in Florida.
