Rauner Calls For Bi-Partisan Budget Fix

(Springfield, IL) — Governor-elect Bruce Rauner again sounded the budget alarm during remarks in Springfield Tuesday, but again avoided specifics on how he proposes to deal with what he says is a seven-hundred-60-million-dollar hole in the budget. Rauner told the Better Government Association that the budget is replete with “accounting shenanigans” and that the state tax code should be overhauled, but he said the solutions to these problems will have to be bi-partisan. He repeated his call for property tax caps and reasonable state tax rates to counter Illinois’ “bottom of the barrel” ranking in economic activity and business friendliness.
