2018: Stroke Support Group Meeting-Mt. Vernon

Stroke Support Group of Southern Illinois Meetings take place the 2nd Thursday of each month from 9am to 11am. The location is SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Enter the main visitor entrance and take the elevator to the 3rd floor. Turn left and follow the sign. The purpose of a stroke support group is to provide stroke survivors and their family caregivers an opportunity to support each other as they strive to rebuild their lives and promote health, independence and well-being. We provide a light snack and monthly speakers.

2018: Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) Meetings – Mt. Vernon

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is a Christ-centered, caring ministry for mothers of children aged birth through kindergarten. There is nothing we would like more than to flourish with you! All moms are invited to join, no matter your religion or whether you attend church or not. HAVE FUN, THINK, TALK, DO! No matter what you’re going through, what season of life you’re in, we love you before we even meet you!

Group gatherings will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, IL, on the 3rd Friday morning of the month from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. An RSVP is requested by the Monday before the meeting. Make sure to let us know with your RSVP how many children you will bring to our childcare services. The American Red Cross Missing Type campaign continues to generate awareness of the need for new donors to help fill the gaps with much needed A’s, B’s and O’s, which make up the main blood types. Many new and lapsed donors have been inspired to make an appointment to give. However, there continues to be a critical need for donors of all types to give now.  Here is a list of blood drives for the month of July for Bond, Clinton, Fayette, Washington and Jefferson Counties.

CE Brehm Memorial Library COLORING DATES CHANGED

The dates for CE Brehm Library’s Coloring for Adults program have been changed. Starting in March, the program will be 2 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, through June. Coloring sheets, colored pencils and crayons will be provided. These are not your childhood coloring books; they are more elaborate and interesting. Coloring has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety in adults, as well as being a fun activity.

The Marion Eye Center for the months of June , July and August is doing a school supply drive for the local schools in the towns that there is a Marion Eye Center.  We have 35 locations in Southern & Central Illinois and in Missouri.  Each office will have a donation box that people in the community can leave supplies at.

 All donations will be given to the schools in late August.  Also we have a coloring sheet of “Iris”.  These can be picked up at your local MEC Office or printed off of Marion Eye Center on Facebook.   After finishing the coloring page, it can be brought back into the local MEC Office and we will display the sheet in the office. For every donation given to the MEC Office the person donating will get their name in a box for that location for a $25 Gift Certificate.
