American Red Cross Blood Drives

American Red Cross Blood Drives

The American Red Cross Missing Type campaign continues to generate awareness of the need for new donors to help fill the gaps with much needed A’s, B’s and O’s, which make up the main blood types. Many new and lapsed donors have been inspired to make an appointment to give. However, there continues to be a critical need for donors of all types to give now.

How to donate blood:

Simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Free Blood Pressure Checks- PINCKNEYVILLE

Free Blood Pressure Checks- PINCKNEYVILLE

Don’t let high blood pressure damage your health. Get your blood pressure checked FREE every Tuesday morning from 8 am – 10 am in the lobby of Pinckneyville Community Hospital.

1 in 3 Americans have high blood pressure. Let Pinckneyville Community Hospital help you monitor yours!

What is blood pressure?
Blood pressure is how hard your blood pushes against the walls of your arteries when your heart pumps blood. Arteries are the tubes that carry blood away from your heart. Every time your heart beats, it pumps blood through your arteries to the rest of your body.

What do blood pressure numbers mean?
A blood pressure test measures how hard your heart is working to pump blood through your body.

Blood pressure is measured with 2 numbers. The first number is the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats. The second number is the pressure in your arteries between each beat, when your heart relaxes.

Compare your blood pressure to these numbers:
*Normal blood pressure is lower than 120/80 (said “120 over 80”).
*High blood pressure is 140/90 or higher.
*Blood pressure that’s between normal and high (for example, 130/85) is called prehypertension, or high normal blood pressure.
