MT. VERNON — The Jefferson County YMCA will be moving. At the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce Luncheon Thursday, the Y’s Executive Director Cheryl Settle announced that the organization has purchased the First Presbyterian Church building on Broadway next to Oak Hill Cemetery.

The building will give the YMCA about 8,000 additional square feet of space, which the organization plans to remodel the existing areas of the church into a roomier fitness area, an additional aerobics classroom, a bigger child watch area, a coffee shop, and better office space.

The church’s clerk of session Sandra Burke says the church is glad to be working with an organization like the YMCA for this endeavor.

The sale will be finalized in February. The YMCA plans to open at the new location this summer.

The First Presbyterian Church will be moving to share a building with Prince of Peace Lutheran Church at 3205 Broadway in Mt. Vernon. The final services at the current building will be held on February 9th.
