JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL — A 38-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced Tuesday in Jefferson County Court to 15-years in prison after he pleaded guilty to shooting another man in 2019.

Myron Seigart pleaded guilty to a Class X felony charge of aggravated battery through the discharge of a firearm in exchange for a Class X felony charge of being an armed habitual criminal and Class 1 charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm being dismissed.

The shooting occurred May 26th, 2019 in the 900 block of South 21st in Mt Vernon. One person was shot during and suffered non-life threatening injuries in that incident.

Seigart was arrested in that case a few months later when members of the Mt Vernon Police Department, Mt Vernon Police Department K9 Division, United States Secret Service and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department located him hiding in the dryer of a Mt. Vernon residence.

He was wanted at that time in connection with the shooting and on a federal warrant stemming from federal drug charges.

Jefferson County State’s Attorney Sean Featherstun says Seigart will have to serve 85-percent of his 15-year sentence.
