Peggy Lou Crider, 83, of Benton, Illinois, formerly of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away on January 4, 2020 at Heritage Woods in Benton. She was born January 30, 1936 in Jackson County, Illinois to the late Thomas and Beulah (Akins) Carlock. Peggy married Noble Eugene Crider on January 2, 1951 in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with 47 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on October 4, 1998.

Peggy is survived by her children, Jack E. Crider and wife, Phyllis of Benton, Rebecca K. Wayman and husband, Garry of Benton, Carl Leon Crider and wife, Debbie of Opdyke, Illinois, Kevin L. Crider of Mahomet, Illinois, Lena R. Minson and husband, Earl of Benton, and Tina L. Honeycutt and husband, Jason of Wyoming; grandchildren, Rhonda Crider, Jacque Farr, Mark Crider, Jay Wilkey, Carrie Vineyard, Matthew Wayman, Aaron Wayman, Gregory Crider, Jessica Lowry, Logan Crider, Earl Minson III, Nikole Justice, Chelsea Chesser, and Hannah Honeycutt; several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Carol Ann Carlock of Murphysboro, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Peggy was preceded in death by her children, Rex Nathan Crider and Kathy Crider; grandson, Sean Wayman; and siblings, Orval Carlock, Raymond Carlock, Carl Carlock, Junior Carlock, Bill Carlock, Jack Carlock, Betty (Carlock) Hale, Virginia Fay Carlock, and Doris Marie Carlock.

Peggy worked as a waitress for many years at Opal’s Smorgasbord in Mount Vernon. She was of the Apostolic faith. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Peggy was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2020 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Peggy ‘s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association.
