EAST ST. LOUIS — Sentencing has been delayed for a 26-year-old Keyesport man who has pleaded guilty in federal court to firearms-related charges against him.

Kyle Matthews was set to be sentenced Tuesday in federal court but the hearing has been continued while the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives makes a destructive device determination on the items seized from the defendant.

Law enforcement officers seized from a camper on Matthew’s property in Keyesport an unregistered Anderson AM15 semiautomatic rifle with removable stock.

He was initially arrested in April 2018 by Clinton County authorities after several law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant.

The day before, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department received information that a man allegedly entered a Carlyle bar with what looked like a homemade pipe bomb.

The search warrant resulted in bomb-making materials, bomb components, about 30 firearms and a large amount of ammunition being confiscated, according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.

Following Matthews’ arrest in April 2018, the Clinton County Sheriff’s reported having received several reports of explosions near Matthews’ home in the weeks leading up to his arrest.

Sentencing in that case is now scheduled for February 27, 2020.
