CARMI — A Carmi man is facing battery and drug charges after allegedly getting into a fight with another man early Tuesday morning in Carmi.

According to a Carmi Police report, officers were sent to 1304 Oak Street for a fight in progress around 1:45 a.m. When the responding officer arrived, the officer tried to separate 40-year-old Louis Donald Napoleon and Bruce Merritt. In the process Merritt was struck and the officer was kicked by Napoleon. Napoleon was placed under arrest.

Upon arriving at the jail, Napoleon was found to have a large amount of Xanax pills in his pocket. Napoleon was charged with domestic battery, aggravated battery of a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance and resisting/obstructing a peace officer. No word if Merritt was charged or not involving the fight.

Napoleon was taken to the White County Jail.
