FAYETTE COUNTY — Attorneys in the Fayette County case accusing a 27-year-old Ramsey man striking his grandmother with a golf club have scheduled an October 21 jury trial in the case.

Derek Trumbold is charged with Class 2 aggravated domestic battery and two Class 3 felony charges for aggravated battery of a victim over the age of 60 and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

He allegedly asked his grandmother for a ride to Oconee in June but she declined. Trumbold then reportedly struck the woman in the head with a golf club.

The grandmother reportedly asked Trumbold to call for help for her injuries, but he refused and left with a friend who had arrived to pick him up.

The woman then walked to a neighbor’s house, who phoned authorities. The grandmother was treated at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia, and then released.

Officers from the Fayette County, Shelby County and Christian County sheriff’s departments located Trumbold in Oconee and took him into custody.

He remains in the Fayette County Jail with bail set at $50,000.
