Robert William Davenport, 88, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 3:50 P.M. October 4, 2019 at his residence. He was born January 16, 1931 in Akron, Ohio to the late Robert W. and Lois (Blocker) Davenport, Sr. Robert married Barbara Jane (Koons) Davenport on September 16, 1952 in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with 67 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his children, David Davenport and wife, Barbara of West Frankfort, Illinois, Joan Tate and husband, Mike of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Nancy Ross of Nashville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Madelyn McCamey and husband, Nick of Nashville, Tennessee, Colter Tate of Owensboro, Kentucky, Heidi Day and husband, Scott of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Rebekah Mellen and husband, Chris of Lowell, Massachusetts, and Meagan Rich of Johnston City, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Carter, Carson, Caroline, Brooks, Tierney, Brenna, Ashley, Cody, Jack, and Kate; niece, Barbara “Cissy” Hanagan and husband, Steve of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and nephew, Paul Lowther of Mount Vernon, Illinois.

Robert proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant from 1949-1955. He worked as a Chief Financial Officer for 22 years at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. He continued his work as Chief Financial Officer at HSHS Saint Francis Hospital in Litchfield, Illinois for 13 years until his retirement. Robert was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Mount Vernon, as well as the AmVets and Mount Vernon Elks. He was also the past president of the Health Care Financial Management Association. Robert was an avid golfer, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

A Greeting of Family and Friends will be held Friday, October 11, 2019 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 11, 2019 at 7:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home with Father Ben Harkinson officiating. There will also be a Military Flag Presentation Service held by the American Legion Chaplain. Inurnment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois at a later date. Memorials may be made in Robert’s honor to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital or SSM Heath at Home Hospice.
