FRANKLIN COUNTY — If you live in Franklin County and wondering why you haven’t seen or heard anything else about what’s going on with the new courthouse and Campbell Building renovations projects lately, County Board Chairman Randall Crocker says there are a lot of things going on right now regarding both projects on the Benton Square.

Crocker says plans for the design of the new courthouse are moving ahead. A courthouse consultant has been there this week gathering information to try and determine the county’s needs for the courtrooms and the Circuit Clerk’s office.

The bids for the Campbell Building renovations are due today. Plans call for moving the County Treasurer and County Clerk offices out of the courthouse and into the Campbell Building permanently.

Crocker says crews will be coming in soon to do soil boring on the courthouse site. An environmental assessment of the courthouse is happening now where samples of different materials are being taken to see if there is any asbestos. This must be done before demolition can start.

Crocker says Circuit Clerk Jim Muir will be issuing a news release soon updating the public on the project.
