MT. VERNON — A 21-year-old Mt. Vernon man is in the Jefferson County Jail following his weekend arrest by Mt. Vernon police for alleged possession of drugs with the intent to deliver.

Cameron Sargent was arrested Saturday for alleged manufacturing/delivery of between one and 15 grams of cocaine, manufacturing/delivery of between 30 and 500 grams of cannabis, and possession of a controlled substance.

Sargent was formally charged Monday in Jefferson County court with manufacturing/delivery of between one and 15 grams of cocaine, which is a Class 1 felony. A Class 1 felony is punishable by between 4 and 5 years in prison if convicted.

He’s scheduled to appear September 9, in Jefferson County court on his charge.
