Samuel Joseph Fleri, 91, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 10:41 A.M.July 11, 2019 at Mount Vernon Health Care Center in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born February 18, 1928 in Olean, New York to the late Joseph and Alevina (Previgilan) Fleri. He married Virginia Booth on November 24, 1978 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were blessed with nearly thirty-seven years of marriage before she preceded him in death on April 2, 2015

 

Samuel is survived by his sons, John Fleri and wife, Mary of St. Charles, Missouri, James Fleri and wife, Debbie of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Bill Fleri and wife, Teresa of Mount Vernon, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Pat Fine of Fort Smith, Arkansas; grandchildren, Joseph Fleri, Daniel Fleri and wife, Kelly, John Fleri and wife, Taylor, Cecilia Fleri, Susan Delay and husband, Brian, and Laura Fleri-Somers and Megan; and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Frailey, Cru Frailey, Ariana Fleri, Olivia Delay, Emery Fleri, Connor Fleri, and Vincent Fleri.

 

In addition to his parents and wife, Samuel was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Fleri; grandsons, Thomas Fleri and Brian Fleri; sisters, Johanna McAusland and Mary Stanaland.

 

Samuel served in the United States Army as a Sargent during World War II. He worked as a chemist for Precision National Plating and was a holder of an United States Patent. He was also a member of Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Mount Vernon Elks Lodge 1604, and Mount Vernon Moose Lodge 1640.

 

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 A.M.with The Very Reverend Father John Iffert officiating.  Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Brian C. Fleri Memorial Scholarship Fund.
