MARION — An investigation is underway after a Marion Police Officer reportedly shot a man they beleived to be wielding a weapon.

According to a release from the Marion Police Department, the incident took place at around 8:14 Sunday night when officers were called to the 2600 block of Ingersoll Lane. When officers arrived, a man, identified of Lucas K. Johnson was found carrying what appeared to be a shotgun at or near the front porch of his home. Officers made several attempts to diffuse the situation and ask Johnson to drop his weapon, and eventually a Marion officer fired a shot and struck Johnson.

Johnson was taken into custody and hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. The Illinois State Police are investigating the incident.
