FAYETTE COUNTY — Defense and prosecution Wednesday confirmed the jury trial date of a 25-year-old St. Peter man charged in Fayette County court with first-degree murder.

Alexander Beccue is charged with two counts first-degree murder, Class 2 felony possession of a stolen vehicle, and Class 3 felony being a felon in possession of a firearm. A June 17 date has been set for his jury trial, with a June 10 final pre-trial hearing.

Authorities say Beccue shot Joshua Smith of Ramsey in the head on Aug. 11, 2017, in Fayette County.

Beccue was arrested a few hours after the shooting following a brief manhunt. He was taken into custody without incident on a warrant charging him with Smith’s attempted murder.

However, Smith died from his injuries later in the day and the charges were elevated to first degree murder. Bail had been set at $1 million. Prosecutors say there were witnesses to the shooting.

Beccue was also wanted on an outstanding IDOC warrant at the time of his arrest for Smith’s murder.
