WAYNE COUNTY — Illinois State Police is investigating the death of a 25-year-old Cisne man after he suffered medical issues following being put into police custody.

On Monday, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, along with Fairfield and Wayne City Police Officers attempted to apprehend 25-year-old Dayne A. Harrison in reference to Wayne County and Clay County arrest warrants. When police made contact with Harrison on County Road 1725 East in Fairfield, he fled on foot into a wooded area. Officer pursued and apprehended Harrison in that wooded area.

After being place into custody, Harrison began experiencing medical issues and became unresponsive. Officers immediately rendered first aid but were unsuccessful. Harrison was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy was conduct Tuesday at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield. The results of that autopsy are pending and ISP continues to investigate.
