FRANKLIN COUNTY — There’s some good economic news coming out of Franklin County.

Mincon Group of Ireland has acquired the former Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. manufacturing facility located in the Benton Industrial Park. The 400,000 square foot facility sits on 38 acres and will be managed by Mike and Shirley Jones who also manage the current Mincon manufacturing facility located in the industrial park.

A formal announcement on the acquisition is set for Tuesday morning at 10 at the former Bombardier building located at 451 East Illinois Avenue and Industrial Park Road in Benton.

Officials says plans call for a portion of the Bombardier facility to be used for manufacturing new Mincon products in addition to the drill bits and hammers that is manufactured at the current operation.

The remainder of the facility will be made available for lease to manufacturers, businesses as well as for storage and distribution.

Bombardier Recreational Products in Benton began operation in 1995 producing Ski-Doo and Sea-Doo watercraft, as well as speedboats. BRP employed 340 people just before it closed its doors in September 2012.
