JACKSON COUNTY — A Du Quoin man was sentenced Tuesday to the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of possession of less than 15 grams of a controlled substance – heroin.

Jackson County State’s Attorney Michael Carr says on Feb. 2, 2019, Jackson County deputies were sent to 36-year-old Tyler G. Weis’ home in rural Du Quoin where they met with Weis’ parole officer and the defendant’s family members who told them that Weis had continued to use heroin and had overdosed twice the night before.

A search of Weis’ bedroom revealed used syringes and other paraphernalia with brown residue on it as well as unidentified pills.

Weis admitted the brown residue was heroin. His parole was revoked and he was remanded to the IDOC to serve out his sentence in a prior matter.

Weis pled guilty Tuesday to the charge of unlawful possession of less than 15 grams of a Heroin and was sentenced to one year in IDOC, followed by one year of mandatory supervised release.

The investigation was conducted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Assistant State’s Attorney Andrew W. Suthard was responsible for the prosecution.
